Taylor Swift’s juggernaut album “1989” earns a 5x platinum certification in the United States.
Taylor Swift’s list of industry achievements continues to grow.
The latest achievement concerns her blockbuster album “1989.” As of June, the release has been certified 5X platinum in the United States.
The Recording Industry Association of America, which oversees the gold and platinum program, formally issued the certification on June 5, 2015.
The 5X platinum certification confirms that Swift’s album, which has spawned four platinum or multi-platinum singles, has shipped at least 5 million US copies.
According to Nielsen Soundscan, its actual US sales total exceeds 4.8 million.
For Taylor Swift, June also brings confirmation that her new single “Bad Blood” has been certified platinum under the RIAA’s digital singles program. The track had earned a gold distinction prior to launching as an official single.
