‘Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version)’ opens at No. 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart! The original version rose to No. 5 in 2015. It is Taylor’s 138th career entry song on the Hot 100. This extends her record amongst women and ties her for No. 3 on the most in the Top 40 overall!
Taylor Swift hits the Billboard Hot 100 with the latest in her series of re-recordings, as “Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version)” opens at No. 37 on the chart dated Oct. 2.
The track, whose original version rose to No. 5 in November 2015, debuts with 8.7 million U.S. streams and 13,400 downloads sold in the week ending Sept. 23, according to MRC Data, following its Sept. 17 release. It bows at No. 3 on the Digital Song Sales chart and No. 38 on Streaming Songs.
The song is Swift’s 138th career entry on the Hot 100, extending her record among women, and her 81st top 40 hit, tying her with Elvis Presley for the third-most of all time, after Drake (143) and Lil Wayne (87). (The Hot 100 began in August 1958, two years after Presley’s commercial breakthrough.)
Swift’s original recording of “Wildest Dreams” was released as the fifth single from her 2014 LP 1989, which spent 11 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The track spent two weeks at No. 1 on the all-genre Radio Songs chart and topped Adult Pop Airplay for four frames and Pop Airplay for two.
(As the new take drew 8.7 million streams and sold 13,400 in the tracking week, the original tallied 3.4 million streams, up 18%, and sold 700, up 23%. The new mix also attracted 307,000 in all-format airplay audience, while the 2015 version, long established at radio, drew 1.5 million.)
The song is Swift’s seventh previously released song to appear on the Hot 100, following “Love Story (Taylor’s Version),” “Forever & Always (Taylor’s Version),” “The Way I Loved You (Taylor’s Version),” Fearless (Taylor’s Version),” “You Belong With Me (Taylor’s Version)” and “Fifteen (Taylor’s Version)” earlier this year, all from her first studio re-release, Fearless (Taylor’s Version). Two additional previously-unreleased tracks from the album billed as “From the Vault” also debuted in April: “You All Over Me (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault),” featuring Maren Morris, and “Mr. Perfectly Fine (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)”; the latter became Swift’s 80th top 40 hit, reaching No. 30.
Swift released “Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version)” after, she said, she was inspired by Swifties getting the song trending on TikTok. Its arrival was unexpected, as she had previously announced that the next “Taylor’s Version” revamp album is Red, due Nov. 19.
The TikTok trend reflects Swifties using the slow-zoom filter soundtracked to “Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version).” In her own TikTok posted Sept. 17, Swift mused, “someone said slow zoom makes you look like the main character I said make it Taylor’s Version pls #wildestdreamstaylorsversion #swifttok #slowzoom.”
